GOP Moves To Impeach Holder
A number of House Republicans are joining in an effort to send Attorney General Eric Holder a pink slip.
“It will be before the end of the year,” he said. “This will go to the speaker and he will decide if it comes up or not.”
A major factor in the initiative was Holder’s handling of an operation that resulted in violent Mexican drug gangs receiving a cache of weapons from the U.S.
Cat Cammack, chief of staff for the Florida congressman, said that the failed program is one of many unacceptable actions taken by the head of the Justice Department.
“Fast and Furious has been one of the number one complaints we get in our office and why no one has been held accountable,” Cammack said, noting “there is a lot of frustration with our attorney general; you can name the botched programs.”
When corruption charges were levied against War Secretary William Belknap in 1876, he opted to resign prior to being removed from office.
Though it is obviously a rare occurrence, there is at least a precedent set for the plan Yoho and others will soon unveil.
A growing segment of the population sees the Obama administration as either corrupt or woefully inept. Either way, calls for the removal of high-profile officials close to the White House have grown significantly in recent months.
While most of the recent focus has been on Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for her ineffective handling of the ObamaCare enrollment site, it is a good sign that Holder’s past behavior has not been forgotten.
